Small liberal arts colleges provide excellent career opportunities for ecologists who place at least as much value on teaching as on research. Faculty at these institutions are typically expected to develop externally-supported research programs and to carry out that research with undergraduate partners, while also teaching several classes each term. Classes are typically small, and students well-prepared, engaged, and enthusiastic. This session will address how best to prepare for such a career, how to develop a competitive job application, and what to expect from a professorship at a private liberal arts college.
