Advice to Allies in DEI: How to avoid mistakes and respond when you make them Abstract: Are you an ally interested in getting involved with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work but afraid of messing up? This talk will help you learn from other people’s mistakes. I’ll walk through two examples of well-intentioned white people (including myself in one case) who got things wrong while working on projects related to DEI in science. Then I’ll present some general-yet-practical advice for how to avoid mistakes and how to react appropriately when you make them.
