It is becoming increasingly common to see women as a dominant presence in master’s and doctoral programs in Brazil. However, despite this progress, gender bias persists in the academic environment, including the Ecology field. The representation of women decreases as they progress through the professional hierarchy, leading to a disproportionate lack of leadership opportunities, funding, and recognition compared to their male counterparts. This disparity is further magnified for mothers, black women, and other underrepresented groups. The Women in Ecology project was created to increase the visibility of these women in ecological science through dissemination and scientific communication. In our lecture, we will discuss the current situation and some professional barriers faced by women in ecological science in Brazil.
