Tick populations and their hosts are impacted directly or indirectly by abiotic and biotic factors. These ecological factors play a critical role in the successful maintenance and transmission of tick-borne pathogens and the subsequent risk tick-borne diseases impose on human and animal health. Washington State's diverse ecosystems are home to several tick species that are effective disease vectors to humans and animals. This presentation will examine the role ecologic factors play in maintaining tick populations and tick-borne disease cycles in Washington State and Pacific Northwest.
