Diverse minds are more likely to find the answers needed to address the pressing environmental issues of our time. However, engaging parts of society that are traditionally underrepresented in the scientific process— especially in marine science and ocean conservation— has been challenging. Reef Check’s Dive into Science program is designed to provide scuba training and community science skills for groups that have been historically underrepresented in science. This 3-year program delivers firsthand knowledge of the marine environment, teaches scientific skills, and offers valuable experiences that prime participants for continued education or job training in marine sciences, resource management, and conservation.
