Cities can be laboratories for ecological research as well as for experimentation with approaches to resilience and adaptation. Here I discuss how an urban practicum course on urban resilience can help foster diversity through service and active learning. I will share some ideas and suggestions about how urban systems can be used to engage students in learning about applied and management issues in ecology.
