Dr. Jay P. Sah is a plant community ecologist and he is working as a Research Associate Professor with the Institute of Environment (IoE) at Florida International University (FIU), Miami, FL, USA. He is an Affiliate Graduate Faculty in the Department of Earth and Environment, and a Project Collaborator in Florida Coastal Everglades (FCE-LTER) Program. His primary research interest is in interdisciplinary approach to natural resource management, and his research focus is on vegetation:environment relationships, and vegetation dynamics in response to environmental changes caused by natural and anthropogenic disturbances, including climate change and the use of plant resources. Currently, Dr. Sah works on vegetation responses to changes in hydrological regimes and fire. He investigates ecosystem processes and their management implications in marl prairies and the tree islands in freshwater Everglades, the coastal wetlands of the Southeast Saline Everglades, the tropical and sub-tropical upland forests of the Miami Rock Ridge and adjacent islands, and the floodplains in the protected areas of Nepal. Before joining FIU as a research faculty, Dr. Sah had 16 years (1984-2000) of post-graduate teaching experience at Central Department of Botany, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, where he was a part of a strong ecology group and had made his mark as an energetic teacher. He did intensive research on wetland vegetation dynamics and management in the lowlands of southern Nepal. His book on Koshi Tappu wetlands: a Ramsar Site in Nepal, published by IUCN in 1997 was one of pioneer books on wetlands in Nepal. Dr. Sah has edited three volumes of the Proceedings of a conference held in Nepal, and has published one book, 3 book chapters, 52 peer-reviewed research papers, 19 research chapters and proceeding articles, and 13 semi-technical articles. He has authored/co-authored 75 abstracts and 70 technical reports. Dr. Sah has presented his work at more than five dozen national and international conferences and workshops.
