Going beyond academia toward a career path that is "unconventional" is intimidating. As scientists we are traditionally trained to be academics. To find a university that will accept us in their ranks as tenured professors. But that's not the only option. Increasingly, we are shifting focus to the careers that STEM degrees can open the doors to. I'll share my experience starting and navigating a career in Natural Resource Management with the U.S Forest Service. My goal will be to inspire future science practitioners to explore careers where their science can turn into action.
