Your understanding of a problem is rooted in your perspective. When considering perspectives other than your own, you can see solutions you hadn’t yet considered. Rangeland ecology continues to progress through the power of broadening our science, but meanwhile, global-change droughts and human actions are colliding to create some wicked problems. The average rangeland ecologist lives 72.9 years, but a humble desert shrub can live for hundreds of years. Perhaps taking the perspective of the organisms that can outlive us, our funding cycles, and our management plans will bring a longer view of these major droughts and our own actions.
