Region 6 Fire Ecologist USDA Forest Service Corvallis, Oregon, United States
The US Forest Service was established within the Department of Agriculture on February 1, 1905. The agency was given a unique mission: to sustain healthy, diverse, and productive forests and grasslands for present and future generations. The interpretation of this mission statement has changed through time as the political, social, and biophysical climate has also changed. In this talk, I explore what it means to be a fire ecologist within a 100+ year legacy of land management policy - and most recently, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and US Forest Service Wildfire Crisis Strategy.
