Diane E. Wickland received a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (Botany) and M.S. (Botany) and Ph.D. (Biology/Botany) degrees from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. She has conducted ecological research at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, SC, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. Her scientific expertise includes carbon cycle science, biogeochemistry, plant ecology, remote sensing, and global ecosystem dynamics. She retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2014. During her nearly 30-year career as a NASA Headquarters Program Manager she oversaw the planning and implementation of NASA’s terrestrial ecological and biogeochemical research programs. This work involved planning future research, arranging for peer review of proposals and projects, recommending and managing funded research, and reporting on accomplishments.
