One of the major goals in evolution and ecology is resolving the mechanisms that govern interactions between species. This is a challenge given that interactions often go beyond pairwise, their direction and intensity vary depending on the environment, and their patterns may be scale-dependent (i.e., from within individuals to among species). I address this challenge by combining metabolomic, population genetics and molecular approaches in both field and lab experiments to investigate how plant traits, including defense and reproduction, shape – and are shaped by – the interaction with insect herbivores, pollinators and abiotic factors at multiple scales. My research aims to broaden the understanding of the ecological dynamics and evolutionary trajectories of adaptations in species interactions.
