Dr. Gaston "Chip" Small is a Professor in the Biology Department and the Department of Earth, Environment, and Society, at the University of St. Thomas (Saint Paul,MN). He is an ecosystem ecologist who has studied nutrient cycling in tropical streams in Costa Rica, in the Laurentian Great Lakes, and in urban ecosystems. He leads a long-term study of nutrient recycling and loss from urban agriculture, and is part of the urban lake research team through the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Long-Term Ecological Research Project (MSP LTER). He is a Fellow at the University of Minnesota Institue on the Environment, and currently serves as Faulty Director of Grants and Research at the University of St. Thomas.
