In the face of rapid and unprecedented global environmental change, the need to monitor and forecast ecosystem-level processes is more urgent than ever. NASA’s free and open remotely-sensed Earth science data have provided a fundamental shift in our ability to detect and model global biodiversity, thereby enabling new opportunities for addressing questions related to the composition, structure, and function of ecosystems across space and time. In this session, we present contributions that take multidisciplinary approaches to advancing biodiversity and ecosystem science using Earth observation data. The presentations integrate different remote sensing techniques with a variety of types of in situ data, such as genetic and bioacoustic data, to investigate processes ranging from community assembly to multitrophic species interactions across a range of spatial and temporal scales in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
