Engaged Scholarship provides a pathway to generate cutting-edge research that aligns with our values and advances the field of ecology. For emerging ecologists this duality is essential, as we value work that extends beyond ivory towers to generate lasting community and societal impact. The purpose of the proposed session is to create an opportunity to learn from scholars and practitioners that leverage university, government, and philanthropic resources to address pressing social, civic, and ethical problems. This session will provide ESA members with varied, and tangible examples of how to do engaged teaching and research. By providing a glimpse into the gestalt nature of engaged scholarship we hope to demonstrate how engagement can facilitate a more thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful ecology.
