The endangered island marble butterfly (Euchloe ausonides insulanus), faces challenges in its survival, requiring critical efforts by the National Park Service (NPS). This presentation highlights the comprehensive conservation measures implemented by San Juan Island National Historical Park in 2023 and the support of those efforts by the park’s Mosaics in Science (MIS) intern. Since 2013, the National Park Service (NPS) has reared the butterflies, which was previously done by local conservationists. IMB individuals in early life stages were collected and reared in the park’s onsite laboratory, historically resulting in an 80-90% survival rate upon release.
