Abstract: Acquiring and pre-processing remote sensing data can be a challenging task. Here we present NASA’s Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) - an online tool that facilitates access to geospatial data from several federal archives. By obscuring file naming conventions, tiling schemes, and date-time stamps, AppEEARS makes data access simple for everyone. With AppEEARS, people can subset data spatially, temporally, and by layer through custom point and area samples. This preferential sub-setting reduces the quantity of data downloaded, improves usability, saves time, and reduces frustration. From AppEEARS, users can access 100s of ecologically relevant remote sensing products that represent many land processes across a range of spatial and temporal scales; some of these processes include: spectral reflectance, elevation, landcover, precipitation, temperature, fire, and vegetation indices.
