Agroecosystems play the dominant role in securing food production and providing various ecosystem services and meanwhile contribute significantly to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. Climate-resilient agroecosystems aim to cope with the impacts of global climate and other natural disasters and crises while maintaining food production, soil health, and environmental sustainability. The overall goal of this session is to convene an array of scholars to show advances in studies of novel and sustainable management practices across diverse agroecosystems using different approaches covering field/lab experiments, remote sensing, sensors, modeling, and data synthesis. There are three primary objectives of this session: (1) to present the frontier research in applications of climate-smart management practices (e.g., adaptive grazing, biochar, conservational tillage, cover crops, short rotation forestry, improved fertilizer use) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for climate change mitigation and adaptation while ensuring production and environmental sustainability; (2) to explore the underlying mechanisms coping with multitude global changes (e.g., climate, air pollution, land use) via climate-smart management practices using advanced technologies and multidisciplinary research methods; (3) to discuss potential benefits and limitations of those management practices in diverse agroecosystems (crops, rangelands, forests) at local, regional and global scales.
