As an insect ecologist and advocate I constantly encounter the challenging, yet rewarding task of promoting the conservation of creatures that are not popular or charismatic. The best strategy I’ve found to spark a connection between insects and humans is through natural history. Listening to stories about how insects live their lives can spark empathy and trigger the emotional reaction needed to push conservation efforts forward. The challenge is finding the right story for the right audience. I will use this space to share prompts and recommendations informed by the many hours I’ve spent advocating for insect conservation.
