Northwest Oregon Area Ecologist USDA Forest Service, United States
As an Ecologist in the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region part of my job is to span boundaries – boundaries between research and management, boundaries between national forests, and sometimes the boundaries between countries! Forest Service ecologists work collaboratively with researchers, managers, and stakeholders to apply best available science to support management decisions. Some services we provide include technical expertise to project planning, model and dataset development, science communication and ecological monitoring. I highlight two examples: monitoring effectiveness of riparian restoration treatments in Oregon and rangeland health in Tanzania.
