Since 2014, we have been live trapping and radio-collaring urban coyotes (Canis latrans) and red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in Madison, WI, USA. One goal of our project is to communicate science to increase the public’s knowledge and tolerance of urban canids in order to promote positive human-urban carnivore co-existence. We have attempted to do this through a variety of education and information campaigns that provide, among other things, information about the benefits of coyotes and red foxes in urban areas. We also promote opportunities for public participation in our research in order to create a personal connection to urban canids.
