SS 30 - Cultivating a Local Engagement Ecosystem: Employing Your Scientific Expertise in Your Community

Session Description: To effectively tackle contemporary challenges in natural resource management, biodiversity, and other areas, scientists must directly engage with policymakers. While these issues are often global in scope, their impact at the local community level presents a valuable engagement opportunity for professionals in the ecological sciences. However, scientists are not trained to translate their scientific expertise and collaborations with local policymakers and community leaders. In this session, attendees will hear from accomplished ecology professionals who will share their own local engagement stories and keys to success. Attendees will then have the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into practice, participating in hands-on activities to identify engagement opportunities in their own communities using strategies and resources provided by Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL).
