Travel To & From The Airport
These are recommended options between Portland International Airport (PDX) and downtown Portland.
Fastest and Most Direct - Taxi Or RideshareA taxi or rideshare (Uber) is usually the fastest option and will drop you off directly at your hotel. A rideshare is probably the less expensive of these two options during off-peak times, and a taxi during peak times (since it’s a fixed price).
Taxi Info
Least Expensive - Light Rail
- The trip between the Portland Airport and downtown takes about 38 minutes.
- An adult ticket costs $2.50 (Youth / Honored Citizen $1.25)
- You can roll your luggage on board.
- The first train of the day arrives at PDX at 4:45 a.m. The last train departs PDX at 11:50 p.m.
- The MAX station and ticket machines are located on the lower level, next to the south baggage claim area (turn right at the base of the escalator). View airport map.
- For complete schedules and more information, visit the Red Line page on the TriMet website.
- Plan your trip here!
Due to construction associated with a system improvement plan, the MAX Red Line service will be disrupted between Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center and Portland International Airport. When operating normally, the Red Line takes riders straight from downtown to PDX. During the construction, a small portion of the line directly next to the airport will be shut down. To replace the closed section of the train line, shuttle buses will run between PDX and the Gateway Transit Center. Normal MAX service will run between Gateway Transit Center and Downtown.
For travel from the airport to downtown:
- Riders will board a shuttle bus at PDX (near baggage claim) that takes them to the Gateways transit center
- At the Gateway transit center, they will board the MAX Red OR Blue Lines toward Portland City Center
For travel from downtown to PDX:
- Riders willboard the MAX Red or Bluen Lines towards PDX
- Riders will get off the train at the Gateway transit center and board a bus that will take them to PDX
Shuttles When you leave the airport, you will find the shuttles at the bottom entrance of the terminal (outside the baggage claim area) on the other side of the second strip (“Island 2”) near the parking garage.
If you are staying at the Crowne Plaza, the hotel offers a free airport shuttle. You can call 503.233.2401 to inquire about the shuttle. You can check the link below for a list of shuttles.
